Contest Entry
ParadeCanon EOS REBEL T2iRexburg, ID July 4th 2011, 11:34 am4.51/2,500I am entering pretty straight forward entry, I didnt do much to it besides changed a little vibrance and contrast. I took the photo at the parade here in Rexburg. They had a lot of cool things but his lady riding two horses combined with the angle I took with it made it my favorite shot and it fits well in the events category.I decided to do the daho Falls Magazine photo contest because they have a lot of different categories and the prizes are a whole lot better than any of the other contests that I saw that were available. Also, I took a ton of shots for the 4th of July and they have a events category that I thought fit it perfectly.http://www.idahofallsmagazine.com/gallery/contest.cfmSubmitted 7/ 12/11

4. Photomatrix, saturation, levels, camera RAW vignette
5. So this is my multiple HDR shot. I chose this one for my poster because of how sharp the photo turned out along with the great colors produced. I also liked how well it went with the brown frame that I purchased. PLus it is for my mom and it was her favorite shot from Bannack. In making it I used six different exposures consisting of -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 which gave Photomatrix a lot to work with I think. After it was put into Photomatrx took down the saturation a touch because the red was just a little bright but using a mask I just applied it to the section that were most red. I also changed the levels wih an adjustment layer and then took I into camera RAW and added a vignette around the border to make the wagon pop a little more.

For this shot I set up my camera with a 5 second exposure time so that it would take in more light and make streaks out of any of the cars driving past Jimmy Johns. I made sure to use my self timer so that there wouldn't be any shake from when i pressed the button. I didnt do anything besides resize these photos in Photoshop.

With this shot I focused on a specific light and turned off my self timer and ditched the tripod. I half clicked to focus on the light and then held it as I moved the light into the starting position and after pressing down I just drew with my camera remembering where the light was. The result is this apple/heart looking thing. The reason I chose this one over my other attempts is that the little lights/reflections everywhere else shows the same apple shape just a lot less bold and I liked the way that looked.

For this I bused out the tripod again and changed my exposure time to 15 sec. This gave me time to paint the ground with my light and make a trail. I played around a lot with this and found some interesting shots. This one was one of my favorites because its pretty simple and the trail goes well with the trees. One interesting thing I found out was if I got close to the trees and painted on them it actually looked like silver spray-paint which was pretty cool.

Now this was just a shot I wanted to throw in. i went to the caves and there was still a lot of frozen puddles inside the cave. So this is just a cool shot of me lighting up the ice with my flashlight and it showing all the little dirt scribbles in the ice.

I probably spent the most time doing the light sketching. It was the most fun. My first one I drew a pony and then a penguin. I needed more than 15 sec for the penguin so you'll notice it has a 30 sec exposure time, unlike the simple horse. So i set up the camera on the tripod again and took the shot then ran out with the light and pointed it at the lens and just started drawing. Found out the larger the drawing the better it will turn out. At least with the light i was using. If it was too small then the light would blurr together and it would end up a blob.

For this edit I simply took the original image and took it into photoshop where I made a rectangular selection and then added a sprayed effect to the edges of it. Then I selected a color from the blue off of the rope and filled in the outer areas of the picture with it.

With this I took the photo into photoshop where i deleted the image and then brought it back in certain areas with a heavy brush and the History Brush tool. This gives me the nice looking brushed looks on the edge due to the type of brush I used.

On this last shot I took it into photoshop and copies the image. Then I gave it a Multiply blending option and then made a rectangular selection, deleting the middle. After that I made a simple box around the lighted are below with a pink I grabbed from the multiplied edge. I also raised the levels on the original background image a touch.

This is a great shot in the saloon. I literally did nothing with it except crop it. There was very good lighting on that side of the shop coming in through the window. I think it turned out well because he was getting done posing in the chair and was about to get up so it turned out to be more of a natural pose.

Here is a shot of our tour guide. He loved to talk and was very knowledgeable about the history of the town. I wanted a candid portrait of him so I brought out my longer 300mm lens so I could get the closer shot that I wanted. After getting the shot I played with the levels and increased the vibrance in photoshop.

In comparing these two photos you should not the difference in the shutter speeds. Obviously the slower one created the blurred person while keeping the background in focus and the shorter one got everything in focus. It was sunny outside so I did need to play with other settings like ISO so the picture didnt get blown out. I also had to use a tripod for the blurred shot.

These both were pretty simple shots just demonstrating the depth of field. Obviously there are different things in focus in each photo. All I did for these photos in photoshop was raise the levels a little bit and that was it. I did used the levels adjustment layer so that it would effect both photos I had in layers the same way.

Here I took a texture shot of a wall that sort of resembled tree bark. Then i took a macro shot of part of the old truck I found in a field and then put them together in Photoshop. First I put the texture shot and command clicked the green channel to get a selection, then I dragged that onto my truck photo and used a color burn blending option to blend them together.

So this is my multiple HDR shot. I used 6ix different exposures consisting of -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3 which gave Photomatrix a lot to work with I think. I didnt really mess with anything after it was put into and HDR image. I took down the saturation a touch because the red was just a little bright and aded a vignette and thats about it.

Here we have a simple shot of this cool oven (or I think it's an oven). I loaded the single image into Photomatrix and used tone mapping to get the richer colors to come out. After that i gave it a vignette in Bridge and thats all it needed.

This is an interesting shot. Basically this was my landscape attempt. So I took that and made 2 different single HDR shots in Photomatix (one for the sky and one for the landscape) then layered them in photoshop and masked the appropriate areas out. This helped me to get a more HDR looking photo from one shot.

This one was another attempt at landscape. Only this time I did the 3 shot HDR in Photomatrix so I didnt combine anything after in Photoshop. It turned out pretty nice, I like the darker stormy look this on got from it.

This was a single HDR shot also. I basically just wanted to play with Photomatrix some more. I just loved all the shadows on the wall and how busy the photo looks. I tok this one into Bridge and added a vignette to make it pop a little more and that was it.

Cool little pipe jar I found while roaming. I assume thats whats its called (I have not clue). For this one I just played with the levels a touch so it wasn't as dark on one side. Then I added a vignette and that was it.

Last but not least this awesome looking stove I found. I really like the bright blue pan on top. Everything was really kinda plain until you see that. I liked this photo a lot and so I didnt do anything to it except add a vignette.

So here is a great shot of Josie. I did quite a bit of airbrush work mainly because of the harsh light that came through the trees on her nose and cheek. I also went in and lightened her eyes, lightened parts of her hair, and added more contrast to the background. After that i went into camera RAW and used an adjustment brush to lighten the exposure on he ear rings and then added a vignette.

This shot didnt have harsh light to deal with so I didnt use as much airbrush but still used a little. Then I selected her yellow sleeves and used replace color to change them to a bright green. I added a vignette and changed the levels and vibrance.

These are a couple of self portraits of me and Josie on a bench. I didnt like the way I looked in the first one but I liked the lighting on the background a lot. So I took the second photo where I like how I looked more but it had a darker background and I used match color to pretty much make the background of the one I liked look like the background from the first shot. Then I just cropped it and added a vignette.
